Happy New Year Seattle! Shows And Special Places To Be New Year's Eve

There's no lack of great bands playing on New Year's Eve in the Seattle area -- here are a few recommendations in case you have not made plans yet!

Not only will this Walking Papers show be special to the loyal fans of the band, but for the band themselves, this will be historical. Legendary Guns n' Roses bass player, Duff McKagan, who plays bass in Walking Papers, will get to see his teenage daughter's band play on the same stage this New Year's Eve, and with a few very special guests -- one is rumored to be local teen rocker Jason Kerston. Grace and her band The Pink Slips have not played out much yet, so fans and family alike are very excited about this.

Restore the Rainier "R" and Bring Back the Bush! ...Among Other Glorious Moments of 2013

What a wonderful year for music in Seattle. Once again, the best music in the world is flowing freely from a collection of amazingly talented musicians. They are not only eclectic and diverse in their many styles, but so genuine, kind, and supportive of one another; it's apparent in every benefit and through generous gestures of many that there is a deep respect of Seattle music past, present, and future.

Pink Floyd's The Wall Musicare Benefit, Omni Reunion Show, Missionary Position DVD Release, & New Years Eve with The Walking Papers: It's All Part of Xanaland's Holiday Rock & Roll Fantasy!

The wonderful year of 2013 is ending with a bang in Seattle! Here's a few of the events on our radar for the last 10 days of December:

Tonight, Thursday the 19th, I will be at The Feedback Lounge in West Seattle for the premier viewing of Black Dahlia's DVD of The Missionary Position. For those of us that can't get enough of this fantastic band, this will be a real treat -- the DVD is said to have 7 or more songs/videos that have until now not been seen in their final artistic form. So this should be interesting to say the least -- Black Dahlia's work is exquisite, and The Missionary Position with Jefferson Angell, Benjamin Anderson, and Michael Alex is unmatched when it comes to "bringing the sexy" to the stage! Join us if you're in the area between 7 and 9 p.m.  DVDs will be available to purchase and are already at local record stores like Easy Street Records.

Puzzle Facade: A Giant Interactive Rubik's Cube!

Puzzle Facade: Ars Electronica’s Media Building Turned into a Giant Interactive Rubik’s Cube puzzles light interactive games
For his thesis project in “Interface Culture” at the University of Arts and Industrial Design Linz, designer Javier Lloret converted the entire facade of the Ars Electronica building in Linz, Austria into an interactive Rubik’s Cube called Puzzle Facade. Lloret created a handheld device the mimics the function of the ubiquitous puzzle toy which then wirelessly communicates with a computer that controls the network of lights installed on the building. Poor little Capricorn, it's not his fault Mercury is in retrograde with Pluto!

Born under a good sign my ass, every Capricorn I know is fighting their demon this year, so far we're blaming that yellow bastard Pluto. Capricorns just can't seem to get a break or want to give themselves a break. See more in our astrology blog tonight at 6!

Designed by Austrian architect Lukas Galehr for the recently-opened ‘Disco Volante’ pizzeria in Vienna, this fully-functional pizza oven has been designed to look like a gigantic reflective disco ball. And yes, it even rotates. ViaMadame Mohr:
According to the clients wish the restaurant should not only carry the atmosphere of a southern Italian pizzeria but also transport the lightness of the “Italo-Disco” era of the 1970s and 80s.
The heart of every pizzeria is the wood fired oven which in this case is a giant disco ball with a rotating mechanism. After the dough is run out the Pizzaioli start the engine and the oven begins to slowly turn with about 1 revolution per minute.

Creative Photographer Awards On Xanaland For November: Ted Gonzales....Winning!

He takes pride in his sobriety, his work, his daughter, and his love for Starbucks coffee, and he's one hell of a photographer!

In fact, I'm thinking of contacting Starbucks myself, because I lost count at like 200 Starbucks related photographs and all very cool and creative.
One thing I always notice about Ted's photographs is that he seems to be in a great mood-even while he's at work...actually especially while he's at work!
He's been one of my best friends on social media for a couple of years now, and I always look forward to his photographs. He has a unique style and what can I say, that handsome face and that adorable mohawk just cant take a bad photo! Just look at that sweet mug, he is adorable!

He also has a special place in his heart for The Misfits, and Kiss, and of course his daughter who he takes great photos of and with regularly, she may not realize it now, today we are all photographers, and with technology kids take it for granite that camera phones are just the norm, well most of us ' adults ' have only a handful of cool photos of us with our parents in comparison. She will surely one day look back at his immense collection of photographs and be very grateful. I know I would be!

Vincent Price Sings "You've Got A Friend" on The Muppets!

This is simply the most adorable thing you will see on the internet today!  Share it with a friend who needs a cyber hug!

Alice Cooper On The Muppets: Pre-Halloween Nostalgia on Xanaland

Now look, we all know there's nothing cooler than when a rock star hangs out with a muppet.

One of the most endearing and humanizing things Alice cooper ever did was appear on The Muppets -- he even tried to get Kermit to sell his soul to the devil!

Please enjoy part one... the set may look simple, but today everything is done with green screen and digitally, so imagine all the work that went into this!

Here's part 2....

The costumes and puppet design are exquisite!  I wonder who has them all now!

Then, Alice finally talks Miss Piggy into the deal with the devil, but she also turns into this bizarre bird!

Then they add the Sci- Fi twist with the Pigs in Space.  The songs he performs are pretty cool as well, including a special version of "School's Out For Summer."  What could be more fun than Muppets in a mosh pit?!  Well, moshing, anyhow!  ... enjoy part 3!

The Lush Tones Grace The Feedback Lounge Tonight

The Lush Tones are one of the first bands I went and saw around the time I started to create my website. They had only been together a few months and were already amazing. Andrew Gemkov was a good social media buddy and had tipped me about many good shows, but when I went to see his own band play, I was truly impressed. Their singer Josh Newdawns Neville is in a class of his own when it comes to style and looks. He's like a translucent grunge angel and I couldn't stop staring at him. And their adorable female drummer. Eva D....forget about it! She rocks, plain and simple! Tonight I finally get to see them again after a long year of missing their shows, and even better- you can too, even if you can't make it to The Feedback, Xanaland will be providing a free live stream you can watch right here on our ' Live Performance ' page!

Please join us at West Seattle's Feedback Lounge or tune into our live stream at 8:00 p.m. Seattle time, babyz!

So please if you're looking for great music and in the Fremont area tonight go check out this show, I really can't say enough about these guys, anyone who knows me knows I pimp them constantly! Here is a video I took of them last winter, and believe me it was love at first listen, remember the name Johndus Beckman because his golden voice is here to stay, not to mention his drummer..Will Andrews, also known as Seattle's 2nd most adorable drummer..fact, not opinion! Look for more video on our youtube channel, and look for their new CD coming out soon!

Seattle's Legendary Sweet Water Tonight at the Jet Bar!

Seattle Honors George Harrison With A Bangladesh Tribute Benefit

Brought to Seattle by loyal music fan and musician Eric Stuart Fredrick, and featuring many of Seattle's best local musicians, this was one of the best shows I've seen in years! It took place at Seattle's Hard Rock Cafe over the weekend, and many of us are still on cloud 9! Seattle musicians must really love The Beatles, because they played and sang their little hearts out!

One Small Step For Amphibians: Godspeed Kermit!

One Giant Leap: Frog Photobombs NASA Spacecraft Launch Photo space NASA
In one one of the more bizarre photobombs ever, NASA released a photograph of what appears to be a frog that may have attempted, and subsequently failed, to hitch a ride aboard a Moon-bound rocket. The shot was captured on September 7th during the launch of the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE), and NASA’s photo team confirms the image is genuine, but stated “the condition of the frog, however, is uncertain.” (via PetaPixel)

Seattle's Second Most Adorable Drummer and Shine Music Project Have a Gift for the World: Drums and Monkeys Are Most Definitely Involved

As many loyal Xanaland followers know, myself and some close friends including Lori Anderson and Tony Taylor, have been working over a year on starting a project that would support the donation of musical instruments to kids that cannot afford them or have instruments that are in need of repair.  Eventually we would like to own and operate a School of Rock franchise in West Seattle.

For the last year we have been photographing, filming, documenting, promoting through social media and blogging as many local musicians as we can. To date our youtube channel has over 300 videos shot by yours truly, and this here little website boasts over 400 subscribers and 80, 000 views in less than a year. We pride ourselves on our diverse taste, and ability to reach out to music lovers all over the world and share what we see and hear here in Seattle, sometimes daily, if not weekly with our documentation of the great Northwest's unmatched music scene which includes live streaming that can be viewed right here on Xanaland for free almost every weekend.

One of our very favorite singers/ songwriters and fellow half ass monkey boy is Johndus Beckman. His primary band is The Mothership. Every single member of the band possesses their own special talent, and each one has their own style. They are one of a few special bands that will soon be archived in our historic Grunge Story Teller blog, and will be performing in our live unplugged shows this winter and next spring which all of Seattle and grunge fans here and abroad are anxiously awaiting for, and they are days away from putting the finishing touches on their 3rd album.

Johndus Beckman of The Mothership

Besides having one of the best singers with a voice of an angel, they are also lucky enough to have in their company Seattle's 2nd Most Adorable Drummer, Fact...Not Opinion...Mr. Will Andrews. You can try to argue with us if you want, but in Xanaland were sort of like the mafia, even when were wrong, were right! Besides, you will probably agree...
Unfortunately I have been getting bamboozled by youtube lately and my video links have not all been uploading onto my blogs, but here is the link, go ahead...click on it!

What did I say...adorable, que no?

Johndus Beckman and Will Andrews of The Mothership

Luckily for us and the general generous nature of Capricorns, Will has been so kind as to offer to help facilitate the giving away of these drums! As an employee of American Music, he meets lots of kids who want to learn, so there's that and there's social  media at our fingertips! Lets give these drums away!

By the way,They were given to us by another loyal Xanaland friend, the one and only, lovely Annmarie Champness.

Sancho having fun on the drums

Here is our staff drum tester Tony playing around on them, as you can see the set is not complete, but we are actively seeking the few missing pieces and they are otherwise ready to give away!

If you have a kid who is serious about learning to play drums, has a place to play them right now, and are in the greater Seattle area, please leave us a message here on Xanaland or in the comments, and one of our staff members will get back to you. Will also teaches drumming, and to contact him and/ or The Mothership  go to the link below, and remember to support local music, even if it's just offering your time to teach a drum lesson or share a song by a new singer, there's much inspiration that comes from other musicians and artist giving back to the community!

Shadow Featuring Pearl Jam's Mike McCready & Sweet Water Rock Seattle at Easy Street Records!

When I wrote about this show earlier this week as an upcoming event, I described the atmosphere at Easy Street Record when bands play in store shows and said there would be people & pets, young and old rocking out, and sure enough there was many! Seattle's Shadow featuring Pearl Jam's Mike McCready also features Rick and Chris Friel and Danny Newcomb. They released a 10" vinyl this week which sold out immediately online and at the record store. They were joined by Sweet Water another one of Seattle's original 80's rock band that has recently been playing out again.

Hempfest 2013 Rocks Seattle With Historic Event and Plenty of Doritos

All Dorito jokes aside, Vivian McPeak, the creator, organizer and much more of Hempfest, has made us all proud and grateful to live in Seattle, although he's doing most of the brain work, so if you support the cause, be sure to follow up with some of his advice, and wisdom, here he is speaking at Hempfest 2013:

Shadow & Sweetwater to Play Free Show at Easy Street Records in West Seattle

Shadow is Rick Friel, Danny Newcomb, Mike McCredy, and Chris Friel

You may have to get out your Grunge Family Tree to remember these bands, but when you figure it our, you'll say to yourself, " Oh sweet Lord, how could I not know who these guys are" or " how could I forget Shadow! " Well maybe not and maybe it's not that dramatic, but they are pretty darn important to the Seattle music scene, and have consistently played and brought some of us luckier folks who live here years of great music and entertainment. That is probably why Mike McCredy, their original guitar player, has taken the time out of his busy schedule as Pearl Jams guitar player, to join them for some special reunion shows.

Mudhoney Makes Seattle Proud, 2 Times Baby!

It was awsome enough to see Mudhoney on top of Seattle's Space Needle earlier this summer, but this weekend they were back, this time playing at The Mural for KEXP's  free concert summer series.

And those of us who have literally watched Mark Arm grow up can say it was definetely a * sniffle sniffle * moment. I wonder if back in the Green River days he ever thought he'd not only still be in a Seattle band, but actually have an incredible amount of respect and worldwide loyal followers.

Seattle's Green River 1987

Xanaland's good friend and local genius photographer Carolyn Fry of Fryes Eyes Photography took these great up close shots, and I actually got a little video which you can watch in the link below be sure to check our worldwide ticket page for tour dates in your area!

Mudhoney live at The Mural!
